Last night, YouTube held a launch party in LA for Screening Room, a new feature for the video-hosting web behemoth that will showcase longer form shorts and features by independent filmmakers:
“The first set of short films include Are You the Favorite Person of Anybody? written by Miranda July (Me and You And Everyone We Know) and directed by Miguel Artega (Chuck and Buck). Other filmmakers involved have a slew of professional credits, including episodes of the series House and Medium — Academy Award nominated/winning short filmmakers are also involved.”
Here’s a link to a 14-minute film called “Our Time Is Up” currently available at the YouTube Screening Room site. The film stars Kevin Pollak and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short in 2006. Interesting to track its plot — it’s got a clear 3-act structure, complete with a denouement at the end.
By the way, the film was written and directed by Rob Pearlstein, who was an exec story editor on the TV show “Medium.”
