“The Hero’s Adventure, Part 6″

After Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, and Part 5, below is Part 6, the final segment of “The Hero’s Adventure” from the exceptional Bill Moyers – Joseph Campbell interview series The Power of Myth. And one last quote from Mr. Campbell:

“The way to find out about happiness is to keep your mind on those moments when you feel most happy, when you are really happy — not excited, not just thrilled, but deeply happy. This requires a little bit of self-analysis. What is it that makes you happy? Stay with it, no matter what people tell you. This is what is called following your bliss.”

  1. Scott,
Have you ever heard about Vladimir Propp’s “Morphology of the Folk Tale”?

His Morphology of the Folk Tale was published in Russian in 1928. Although it represented a breakthrough in both folkloristics and morphology and influenced Claude Lévi-Strauss and Roland Barthes, it was generally unnoticed in the West until it was translated in the 1950s. His character types are used in media education and can be applied to almost any film or television series.

  2. Alex, thanks for that recommendation. I am familiar with Levi-Strauss, having studied him in college, but not Propp. Will pick up his book. What’s your email? Would like to ask you a few questions.
