Imagine you head up the marketing department at Warner Bros. studio. And you’ve got this ginormous movie The Dark Knight slated to launch July, 2008. What do you do with the millions of dollars at your discretion to hype the movie to the general public?

Well, you cut several kick-ass trailers that inspire dozens and dozens of video spoofs. You create an incredible website with all the flash animation bells and whistles, including a Dark Knight mobile game. You produce a boatload of posters to saturate the Internet.

But that’s not enough. You know the best advertising is free: word of mouth. And what subculture is wired to generate a ton of buzz? Comic book fans. So you drop a reported $50,000 on a company called For Your Imagination, which “develops and markets high-quality original web video series turning concept into reality for brands and content creators” to create Kyle Piccolo: Comic Shop Therapist.
