When I started this blog two months ago, I doubt I ever thought I would post something from the Yale Alumni Magazine. But there I was a few minutes ago, flipping through my copy that arrived in the mail today, and who do I see but "Ellyn Warren" from thirtysomething, actress Polly Draper. Turns out she was at Yale when I was in graduate school (she graduated in '77, I got my masters in '78). It also turns out she's a hyphenate nowadays: actress-writer-director due to the movie and now hit Nickelodeon show "The Naked Brothers Band." Here's the article on Draper in the Yale mag.Gets me thinking I should plumb the alumni depths of both UVA and Yale to dig up the screenwriters. Offhand I know that Sam Hamm, Tom Shadyac, and Tina Fey are UVA grads. Not a bad start right there.
And by the way, doesn't that photo from thirtysomething take all you fellow old fart yuppie scums back in time? Pass the brie!
UPDATE: I remembered that there is one other Yale Divinity School alum who's a screenwriter -- Charles Randolph who wrote The Life of David Gale (2003) and The Interpreter (2005). Here's a New York Times article which goes into his background, including his YDS experience.
