It had been such a long time since a spec script sold in Hwood, I went back through the files and discovered the last sale was on August 14th. Nearly 2 weeks! Talk about the dog days of August! But then, I uncovered something I missed: Variety reports that Screen Gems bought “Easy A” from writer Bert V. Royal:

Spec tells the story of a good-natured high school student who uses the school rumor mill to financial and personal advantage by pretending to be the school slut.

Per IMDB, there’s this note re Royal:

He quit his profession as a casting director to write the play ‘Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead’ which was awarded the 2004 New York International Fringe Festival Overall Excellence Award.

Appears Mr. Royal’s desire to be a writer paid off!
