All-Star Interviews: William Goldman, Robert Towne, and Richard Lagravenese

One of the most interesting experiences of doing this blog has been sourcing all the video interviews with screenwriters that are available on the Internet. You can access them all in the Video Interview link under Lists on the right-hand side of the GITS home page. An amazing array of personalities including Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Wells, Paddy Chayefsky, Billy Wilder, and dozens of others, each providing insight into the creative, writing, and filmmaking process.

For the final two Sundays of 2008, I figured we'd go out with a bang. Today, we've got an hour with three of the most influential screenwriters in contemporary Hollywood: William Goldman (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, All the President's Men, The Princess Bride), Robert Towne (Chinatown, Shampoo, Mission Impossible) and Richard LaGravenese (The Fisher King, The Little Princess, Beloved). These three are also some of the most in-demand 'script doctors,' having worked on dozens and dozens of film projects without receiving credit. This is a very special edition of "The Charlie Rose Show," focusing on the role of the screenwriter in the filmmaking process.

And next Sunday? Trust me, it is a mindblowing interview with two historic writers you would never put together in the same room -- and yet there's video of the two in conversation.
