Diablo Cody: "My 90210 Moment"

Question: When was the last time an actual screenwriter guest starred on a prime-time scripted TV series? If you answered "never," no more calls please, we have a winner!

[And no, Quentin Tarantino's appearance last night on "American Idol" does not count because that is a -- supposedly -- 'non-scripted' show].

Well, the TV gods must have figured they've ignored screenwriters long enough because on tonight's episode of the CW's "90210," one of the guest stars is none other than our beloved Diablo Cody. Not that I'm obsessed with Ms. Cody or anything, even though I have posted about her here, here, here, here, here, and here. Oh, and here. And well, uh... here, too.

Okay, I guess I am obsessed with Ms. Cody.

It's all right, I guess, because it appears that Diabloe is obsessed herself -- with "BH 90210". Or so she let's on in this E.W.com feature:
Due to my repeated columns about The CW's 90210 in this very publication, I was recently invited to drop by and shoot a few scenes. (For those keeping score, I've written about the new series at least twice already. I don't think Lou Reed got that kind of coverage from Creem.) Anyway, allow me to describe how I reacted to the invite: You know that guy who fronted the Judas Priest cover band? And he was, like, the biggest Judas Priest fan EVER? And then, miraculously, Judas Priest asked the guy — this regular hardworking dude — to be their new lead singer? Well, when 90210 called, I felt like that guy. It couldn't actually be happening. The world became a haze. I imagined my name appearing in the credits beneath the words ''Special Guest Star.'' I pictured myself in a lavishly appointed trailer, feeding strawberries to Tristan Wilds.
So how was Diablo's experience on the set?
After I slipped into a sexy gown and a pair of nerve-numbing gold pumps, I was driven to the set, in this case the fictional home of one Kelly Taylor. Yes, I was actually going to Kelly Taylor's house. I could hardly process this emotionally. It didn't help that Jennie Garth was filming on the porch when the van pulled up. I absolutely idolized her in my youth — I even tried to tease my bangs into that weird parenthesis shape in the seventh grade. At this point, I began to perspire in places I wasn't aware I had sweat glands.
Perspiring in heretofore unimagined sweat glands. Sounds hot! See an actual screenwriter in a guest starring role tonight at 9PM on "90210".

Tarantino was on several episodes of Alias. He didn't play himself, but his character was AWESOME!

Ronald D. Moore had a cameo in the last 5 minutes of the BSG finale.

Carlton Cuse provides the "Previously, on LOST" V.O. at the beginning of every episode.

Marti Noxon and David Fury were listed as co-stars in the Buffy episode "Once More With Feeling" as they both had singing roles.

Granted, none of these people play themselves (except maybe RDM), but I could list more if you want. :)

Tarantino actually also guested on Margarette Cho's sitcom ... and I believe he played an Elvis impersonator on The Golden Girls back when he was a struggling actor ...

He also hosted SNL, though it may not be fair because he's a director, too.

Yeah, Tarantino was great on Alias.

And I will just stop there to avoid a Diablo Cody rant. :)

What about Joss Whedon on Veronica Mars?

Kevin Smith on Veronica Mars as well. And do we not count Steve Martin as a screenwriter because he's a multi-hyphenate?
