Fox Searchlight picks up dramedy pitch “Table 19″ from writing-directing-acting brothers Mark and Jay Duplass:
Based on McNulty’s fish-out-of-water stories from attending a good friend’s wedding in England, the dramedy describes the experience of those wedding guests quarantined at the dreaded “singles table.” Told from the points of view of the strangers randomly thrown together, the story explores what marriage means to those on the sidelines.“We had tried to crack this idea with several writers over the years, and we were always huge fans of Mark and Jay Duplass,” McNulty said. “When they said they wanted it to be their next film to write and direct, we were thrilled.”
Duplass brothers movies include The New Brad (2002), This is John (2003), Scrapple (2004), The Puffy Chair (2005), and Baghead (2008). Here is how they supposedly came up with the idea for Baghead:
While the Duplass Brothers were shooting their last feature film The Puffy Chair, a crew member raised the question “what’s the scariest thing you can think of?” Someone immediately said “a guy with a bag on his head staring into your window.” Some agreed, but some thought it was downright ridiculous and, if anything, funny (but definitely not scary). Thus, BAGHEAD was born, an attempt to take the absurdly low-concept idea of a “guy with a bag on his head” and make a funny, truthful, endearing film that, maybe, just maybe, was a little bit scary, too.
Here is the trailer from Baghead:

Baghead was an effective low budget horror comedy. I would say it was a little scary in the latter half, and the comedy worked. Looking forward for more of these guys.
