2010 Hollywood movie release schedule (2nd quarter)

If you're serious about selling a spec script to a Hwood movie studio, you're well advised to keep up with what stories they're buying and what movies they're releasing. For the former, GITS posts every spec script and original pitch that sells as they occur. Re the latter, I'm posting the 2010 movie release schedule each day through November 27.

The Last Song (Disney): Miley Cyrus, Liam Hensworth

Drama

A rebellious teenager is sent to spend the summer with her estranged father.


Mary, Mother of Christ (MGM): Camilla Belle, Al Pacino

Repo Men (Universal): Jude Law, Live Schreiber

Why Did I Get Married, Too? (Lionsgate): Tyler Perry, Janet Jackson

Four couples reunite for their annual vacation in order to socialize and to spend time analyzing their marriages. Their intimate week in the Bahamas is disrupted by the arrival of an ex-husband determined to win back his recently remarried wife.

A married couple find their routine date night becomes much more than just dinner and a movie.


The Losers (Warner Bros.): Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba

Action

A woman conceives twins through artificial insemination, only to meet the man of her dreams on the very same day.


Death at a Funeral (Screen Gems): Chris Rock, Tracy

Comedy

A funeral ceremony devolves into a debacle of misplaced cadavers, indecent exposure and family secrets. When things can't get any worse, a man arrives saying he's the dead man's gay lover and threatens blackmail.


The Joneses (Roadside Attractions): David Duchovny, Demi Moore

Comedy

A picture-perfect family that moves into a suburban neighborhood and immediately becomes the toast of the town, loved and envied by all. But the reality is they are a commissioned fake family put together by a marketing company as a way to introduce new luxury-level products to neighborhoods around the world.


Kick-Ass (Lionsgate): Nicholas Cage, Aaron Johnson

Comedy, Action

In a world of geeks, dorks and dweebs, a hero will rise -- unfortunately, that hero is 17 year-old Dave Lizewski, a geek, a dork and a dweeb, whose efforts to reinvent himself as costumed superhero Kick-Ass all seem doomed to failure, because he's not particularly athletic or coordinated or aggressive. Other than that, he's super -- until he runs into real bad guys with real weapons.

A prehistoric strain of fish terrorizes college students at Lake Havasu in Arizona.

Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps (20th Century Fox): Michael Douglas, Shia Labeouf

Drama

Gordon Gekko, recently sprung from prison, re-emerges into a much more tumultuous financial world than the one he once lorded over.


May 7


Iron Man 2 (Paramount): Robert Downey, Jr., Mickey Rourke

Action, Superhero

The continuing adventures of billionaire industrialist Tony Stark and his alter-ego, Iron Man.


Letters to Juliet (Summit): Amanda Seyfried, Vanessa Redgrave

Drama, Romance

An American girl on vacation in Italy finds an unanswered "letter to Juliet" -- one of thousands of missives left at the fictional lover's Verona courtyard, which are typically answered by a the "secretaries of Juliet" -- and she goes on a quest to find the lovers referenced in the letter.

Thriller

Family, Comedy

The Winslows move from Kansas to Orange County with their dog Marmaduke, a slobbery pooch who creates chaos wherever he goes.

The A-Team (20th Century Fox): Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper

Action

A group of ex-military commandos escape from a military prison and roam America, handling covert operations for money. Their latest incarnation revolves around a group of Iraq War veterans looks to clear their name with the U.S. military, who suspect the four men of committing a crime for which they were framed.


Get Him to the Greek (Universal): Jonah Hill, Russell Brand

Comedy

A record company intern is hired to accompany out-of-control British rock star Aldous Snow to a concert at L.A.'s Greek Theater.


The Karate Kid (Columbia): Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith

Action, Family

Set in China, the story follows a bullied youth who learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor.


June 18


Jonah Hex (Warner Bros.): Josh Brolin, John Malkovich

Action

Hex, known for having the right side of his face disfigured and wearing a Confederate army uniform, was a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter whose adventures always ended in blood.


Toy Story 3 (Disney): Tom Hanks, Tim Allen

Comedy, Family, Animation

Woody, Buzz, and the rest of their toy-box friends are dumped in a day-care center after their owner, Andy, departs for college.


June 25


Grown Ups (Columbia): Kevin James, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, David Spade.

Comedy

Five best friends from high school reunite 30 years later on a Fourth of July weekend.

Wow. Some huge movies on this list...

Interestingly, 10 of these 30 are either remakes or sequels... which is very bad news for most of us.

Looks like I'll be sick on the 28th of May. Shame. I really wanted to take my wife to see Sex and the City 2.
