Update: Daily Dialogue contest

So on Monday, I posted this:
As any of you who are regular GITS readers know, I start off each day on this blog with something I call Daily Dialogue. It's a (hopefully) an interesting side of dialogue from a movie that I've seen to (hopefully) inspire each of us and get our creative juices flowing.

The only other 'rule' I've had is not to repeat myself. I don't know how long I'll keep up this blog, but since I've seen thousands of movies, I figure I ought to be able to do DD for years w/o hitting the same movie twice.

But then I had a thought: I wonder if any of you would like the opportunity to select the Daily Dialogue. I do get the occasional suggestion via email. Why not let someone else have a whack at the DD feature?

So I'm willing to give this a whirl to gauge interest. Here's the deal: I'm dangling the possibility of a GITS reader to decide a week's worth of Daily Dialogues, based upon the most clever theme (as judged by me). So if you're interested, come up with a theme around which you can post dialogue from 7 movies, and as long as (A) you can forward me the dialogue and (B) there is a clip or trailer from the movie on YouTube, I'm more than happy to let you program a week's worth of Daily Dialogues. And I'll do all the grunt work (i.e., prepping each post).

By theme, I mean anything. It could be "Movies That Start With the Letter B," or "Movies That Star Midgets," or "Movies That Have The Word 'Gold' In Their Title." I'm open to anything - as long as it's clever.

So post your theme and 7 movie titles in comments, and let's see what happens. Who knows what will happen? I could post this and get the virtual equivalent of crickets chirping in the 'audience.' But if people like the idea, I'll be thrilled to open up the whole Daily Dialogue thing to readers on a recurring basis.

Up to you. Post a theme and 7 movies in comments for the chance to program Daily Dialogue for an entire week!
Thus far, here are some suggestions:

* Silly dialog ala "I don't drink water. It rusts pipes and fish make love in it." -- Marcus Brody, Raiders of the Lost Ark (suggested by attatt)

* Best lines spoken by a power hungry comic book villains ala "Pathetic earthlings. Hurling your bodies out into the void, without the slightest inkling of who or what is out there. If you had known anything about the true nature of the universe, anything at all, you would've hidden from it in terror." -- Ming the Merciless, Flash Gordon (suggested by The Film Connoisseur)

*
Movies about movies or the movie biz (suggested by Joshua James)

* A character's final dying words (suggested by Peter Dwight)

* "7 movies that make me feel really good to watch" - a quite nice list of films (suggested by -Keith)

* Corpse dialogue (suggested by HarmoniMcg)

* Movies written by women (suggested by Aleks)

I'll keep the contest open through tomorrow (Friday), then announce the winner. So if you've got a theme and some favorite movies, go into comments and post away!

How about movies with voice-overs? "Trainspotting," "High Fidelity" & "Annie Hall" come to mind.

I've thought about it and decided on - please no drum rolls -

The Riffs of Dennis Farina

He's one of my favorite "cool lines characters" and has totally had some of the best lines ever.

Or - what is it with the drum rolls -

The Coolest Robert Loggia Lines
yet another one of those go to guys for not-so-stock characters. I'm searching for the trailers but I'm sure everyone has seen them.

I have to go with Dennis Farina. Just his lines from Snatch are golden.
