"Dexter" returns September 26th!

Per TheWrap, less than 3 weeks until “Dexter” returns:

Season four ended on a high note with a surprise ending that left the vigilante murderer and forensic investigator Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall) shattered– and perhaps seeking revenge.

The season’s storyline, which featured Dexter playing a twisted cat-and-mouse game with John Lithgow’s eerie “Trinity Killer,” was a hit with both fans and critics earning record ratings and a supporting actor Emmy for Lithgow.

“Dexter’s” fifth season will feature guest appearances from Julia Stiles and Jonny Lee Miller.

Unlike the first four seasons, this one won’t have a single A-story arc for the entire run of episodes. Plus showrunner Clyde Phillips left the show after last year. For a taste of what to look for, here’s a brief bit with one of the show’s guest stars this year Julie Stiles:

So… what do you think? Hopeful they can sustain the quality writing they’ve achieved for four solid years? Worried it will jump the shark?

And which of the four seasons of “Dexter” is your favorite? I’ll probably go with Season 2 with that wild Englishwoman Lila:

  1. Season 1 has to be my favorite, the introduction into his dark world captivated me and I still randomly watch episodes from that season on netflix. Season 3 with Jimmy Smits almost ruined the franchise in my book but season 4 was amazing. Im not quite sure what to expect out of season 5 but I would love to work on that show!!

  2. For me, it was a combination of seasons 1 and 2, probably because I saw the Dexter marathon right before they kicked off season 2.

I'm really liking what I see in the trailer for this season though. If the writing stays as sharp and pointed, the show will be draining (emotionally) and not stiff.

On a more humorous side note, if you haven't watched Julie Benz' appearance on The Soup, it's worth it.

  3. Seasonwise I'll go with #2. Lila was amazing and the storytelling and the characters were so great. I loved how it all played out at the end.

Season #3 was the weakest but it did not ruin anything for me. Jimmy Smits' character actually was the part that saved it from slipping into boredom.

The trailer for season #5 looks pretty swell and there is a lot for Dexter to chew on. They finally set up a good purpose for the Quinn-Character who had not so much to do in the last two seasons.

And finally I would say that show will not jump the shark until Deb finds out the truth about Dexter unless they won't stall that revelation too much.

I'm totally excited about the new season… can't wait.
